On December 19, 2016, the UN Generally Assembly adopted the resolution on the Follow-up to the twentieth anniversary of the International Year of the Family and Beyond.  Under this resolution, the General Assembly encourages governments to continue efforts to realize the objectives of International Year of the Family and to develop strategies that strengthen the capacities of families.  This document is a report of the Third Committee on the from the 71st Session Regarding Social Development.  In addition to the report on the twentieth anniversary of the International Year of the Family and Beyond, this report includes Report of the Secretary-General on the realization of internationally agreed development goals for persons with disabilities and progress made in the implementation of the outcome document of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the realization of the Millennium Development Goals and other internationally agreed development goals for persons with disabilities; Note by the Secretary-General transmitting the report of the Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on literacy for life: shaping future agendas; and Note by the Secretariat entitled “World Social Situation 2016: Leaving No One Behind — the Imperative of Inclusive Development”.
