Making it Clear on Foster Care

Shirvan Williams, Guardian Trinidad and Tobago

The foster care system in Trinidad and Tobago may soon see a significant change, according to this article from the Guardian of Trinidad and Tobago. The Children’s Authority, an organization that oversees child welfare in Trinidad and Tobago hopes that the “Child Act” legislation will be passed by parliament at the end of February, thus installing a more well thought-out and effective foster care system than the one currently in place. The current system started as a pilot program 20 years ago and has never been fully commissioned, says the article. The new foster care system promises several improvements, including placing more children in foster homes and family settings, rather than in community residences.
