Why does the US have so many child brides?

BBC News

In this video from the BBC, Angel, a yong woman from the US, tells her story of being married at the age of 13. "I felt like a slave," she says of her childhood. The video goes on to explain that child marriage is still legal in many states in the US and there is no minimum age of marriage, despite the global shift to ban the practice in other countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Tanzania - countries who have banned child marriage in the last three years. Another woman, Sherry, shares her story of being married to the man who raped her when she was 11. She is now an advocate and is fighting to have the practice banned in her home state of Florida.
