Research Coordinator - Latin America and the Caribbean Region

Lumos is an international organisation working to end the institutionalisation of children globally by 2050. To achieve this aim, Lumos works in partnership with governments, UN agencies, civil society, communities, families, children, and caregivers to transform outdated and ineffective systems that drive families apart. Together with partners, Lumos replaces institutions with family and community-based services that provide children with access to health, education, and social care tailored to their needs. This support enables families to provide the care their children need to develop to their full potential.

We are seeking a Research Coordinator to be responsible for Lumos’ research, monitoring and evaluation activities across the Latin America and Caribbean region. Particular focus will be on a ‘mapping initiative’ Lumos will be undertaking, which looks to identify the scale and scope of children living in institutions across the region. The Research Coordinator will work closely with the regional Head of Programmes and Advocacy, the Research and Evaluations Manager based in Head Office, and external partners to develop and implement the mapping methodology and review its progress.

Under the supervision of the Research and Evaluations Manager, the Research Coordinator will be involved in supporting the development and implementation of a range of ground-breaking studies and preparing high quality reports. This role will be integral to understanding why children end up in institutions, the effectiveness of alternatives and capturing learning about the reform process.

In addition, the job holder will support with monitoring and evaluation to assess the effectiveness and impact of Lumos’ work in the region and improve its quality. The Research Coordinator will also review and monitor research in the region and identifying and contributing to issues relevant to Lumos’ mission.

The project may include the management one or more research assistants to support different research projects.

We are looking for an experienced and flexible researcher who is passionate about children’s rights and capable of leading on a range of research related activities. To be successful, applicants will have strong research skills and knowledge, and experience of research methods. Candidates will need to work both independently and as part of an international team, organising and coordinating a wide range of projects.

This is an exciting new opportunity and the successful candidate will have strong communication skills together with an excellent command of spoken and written English and Spanish. Knowledge and experience of working in the region is essential combined with the ability to work with a diverse range of people and cultures.

This role will occasionally require international travel.
