Ghanaian undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, and his team posed as volunteers at a children’s home in Awutu Bawjiase in the Central Region of Ghana and uncovered abuses and corruption occurring in the orphanage. The journalist spent six months documenting the abuses, including forced fasting, physical and sexual abuse, forced abortions, neglect, and inadequate medical care. He also noted the corrupted practices of the home’s founder Mrs Emma Boafo Yeboah who had “turned the home into a business venture” by re-selling food and other items donated to the orphanage to the public. Anas brought his findings to the attention of the Ministry  of Gender, Children and Social Protection and the home has been shut down. The orphanage is currently under investigation.

Anas has also released a video documenting what he found at the orphanage, which can be viewed here.
