China channels more funds, care into helping children in need

The Chinese government is increasing its financial support to vulnerable children, particularly orphans, left-behind children, and children living in poverty, according to this article from Xinhua Net. Plans include increasing the amount of the living allowance allotted to orphaned children, expanding medical insurance coverage, subsidizing living costs for orphans attending colleges, and "400 million yuan for children's protection from the central assistance fund for people with financial difficulties." This fund will be used to "collect evidence on those in need of rescue, evaluate guardianship, and conduct follow-up studies and visits for needy children, especially those in impoverished areas." The plan will also include additional funding for personnel training.
