Madras HC orders judicial probe into human rights violations at Trichy orphanage

“The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Friday ordered a judicial probe into the alleged human rights violations at an unregistered orphanage in Trichy district, India. After perusing the report, the judge passed an interim order appointing a judicial officer to inspect the home and submit a report on December 1. Besides, they raised a serious concern about the conditions in which 89 girls are housed at the orphanage. On Friday, as directed by the court, Trichy district social welfare officer S Usha and district Child Welfare Committee chairperson S Indra Gandhi appeared before it and submitted a report on the functioning of the orphanage. The court also directed Usha and Indra to accompany the judge.”
