Nine Months in the Bronx – Felicia’s dreams and drug tests

Anna Bressanin - BBC News

This six-part video series from the BBC highlights the discrimination and challenges that poor women of color face in the child welfare system in New York City. The series follows one young mother, Felicia, during her pregnancy as she fights to prevent child protective services from taking her newborn son away from her custody when he is born, and to have her other two children returned to her care. The videos focus on unjust drug testing practices in local hospitals, discriminatory practices in the child welfare system, and the many other factors that keep poor families of color separated, often unnecessarily.
