Vincent Schilling - Indian Country Today

The federal Government of Canada has reached a settlement with the First Nations victims of the so-called “Sixties Scoop,” according to this article from Indian Country Today. The "Sixties Scoop" refers to the common practice in Canada during the 1960s when child welfare agencies would remove indigenous children from their homes and communities and place them in foster care or adoption in non-native families and communities. "After years of trying to fight against the Canadian federal government, Lead claimant Chief Marcia Brown Martel won a massive victory when the court awarded a payout of $800 million Canadian / $635 million American, to about 20,000 victims."
