'Worst foster parents in the world': Federal agency says it lost track of 1,475 migrant children

Nearly 1,500 unaccompanied migrant children in the US are unaccounted for by the federal agency that is responsible for their care, according to this article from the Morning Call. "You are the worst foster parents in the world. You don't even know where they are," said Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, USA to federal officials at the Department of Health and Human Services.

"From October to December 2017, HHS called 7,635 children the agency had placed with sponsors, and found 6,075 of the children were still living with their sponsors, 28 had run away, five had been deported and 52 were living with someone else. The rest were missing, said Steven Wagner, acting assistant secretary at HHS." There are concerns that these children may have been trafficked or otherwise at risk.
