Making the Children of Key Populations a Priority for Equitable Development

The Coalition for Children Affected by AIDS

This briefing highlights the burdens children affected by HIV and AIDS face.  According to this document, children face the double burden of exclusion.  Children affected by HIV and AIDS are often forced to confront the stigma of their parents’ conditions along with the lack of resources and interventions for children.  This document points out five key priorities to help the lives of children affected by HIV and AIDS. They are: 1) Strengthen HIV services so that they better address the needs of children and key populations; 2) tackle the stigma facing children of key populations more effectively; 3) design and deliver better care services for the children of key populations; 4) support the children of key populations to reach their full potential through targeted inclusion in early childhood development and education; and 5) strengthen laws, policies and procedures so that the children of key populations can access full citizenship services and protection.
