Ghana is working toward reforming and strengthening the foster care and adoption procedures and, to that end, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) convened a group of stakeholders at a meeting in Accra to gather their input. The aim of the reform is to strengthen the child protection system in Ghana, particularly in regards to alternative care. The reform process will include amending  the Children’s Act of 1998 (Act 560) to conform with the 1993 Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption “in an effort to protect those involved from the corruption, abuses and exploitation which sometimes accompany adoption,” according to the article.
