This fact sheet highlights Austria’s process in transforming institutional care towards community-based and family-based systems. Austria’s latest numbers show that 6,159 children were growing up in small group homes in 2014. The same statistics state that 4,651 children in Austria were growing up in foster care. While they are growing up in these family-based and community-based settings, they are not supported when they leave care.
