Concluding Observations and Recommendations by the ACERWC on the Second Periodic Report of the Republic of Kenya, on the Status of the Implementation of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child

African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC)

The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC/the Committee) considered the second periodic report of the Republic of Kenya during its 35th Ordinary Session, which was held on 31 August – 08 September virtually. The dialogue with the Delegation of Kenya, headed by the Cabinet Secretary, Minister of Labour and Social Protection, H.E.Mr. Simon K. Chelugui helped the Committee to better understand the measures that the State Party has undertaken towards the implementation of the Charter as well as the challenges it is facing. After a careful consideration of the facts in the Report and the information provided during the constructive dialogue, the Committee has developed and adopted the following concluding observations and recommendations which, in the Committee’s view, provide guidance to better enhance the implementation of the provisions of the African Children’s Charter.

In this document, the Committee makes recommendations regarding children with disabilities, social protection, violence against children, and more. This includes a set of recommendations for children in alternative care and prevention of family separation (beginning on page 11).
