This fact sheet by Save the Children provides an overview of the current status of national child protection systems in Zambia. Although Zambia has ratified many key international instruments related to child protection, no real progress has been made in introducing legislation to change national law. There are a number of pieces of legislation that cover matters related to children, yet currently no single legislation exists that clearly outlines roles and responsibility. However, there are a number of systems and policies in place that govern child protection issues, and there is a National Child Policy (2006) of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development geared to strengthening coordination and regulatory framework. Each key section in this report is presented with clear accompanying recommendations and ways forward on how to improve children's conditions in Zambia.
