The Keeping Children Safe Coalition recently published a comprehensive toolkit for the development of child protection standards and processes for international aid agencies. Abuse of children across the world occurs on a staggering scale with the Coalition estimating that 40,000,000 children are abused each year. Recognizing the obligation of international organisations to address these protection challenges effectively, the Keeping Children Safe Coalition produced a thorough step by step guide to the establishment, implementation and monitoring of safeguards for children.
The first toolkit, Standards for Protection, delineates 11 standards for child protection with extensive discussion on the creation, implementation, monitoring and adherence of standards. The toolkit notes the need for culturally relevant and applicable standards for communities and provides insight on how agencies can ensure that their development of standards ensures safety, sensitivity and relevance.
