The Parenting Gap

Richard V. Reeves and Kimberly Howard

According to a new paper by the Center on Children and Families at The Brookings Institution, a US based private nonprofit organisations focused on research, the parenting gap is a big factor in the opportunity gap. The United States suffers from gaps in income, education and opportunity. The most important gap of all may be in parenting, say Richard Reeves and Kimberly Howard: poor parenting harms well-being, limits social mobility, and ultimately damages the economy. Reeves and Howard examine the scope of parenting interventions that directly address poor parenting as research has found how much parenting matters.
