Children and Youth in Care - Hotel Placements

This special report from the Ministry of Children and Family Development in British Columbia, Canada presents findings on the number of children in care in the province who were sent to stay in hotels. According to the report, 24 children and youth were placed in hotels between January 13, 2016 and April 30, 2016, one child was even placed twice. Sixteen of those children were Aboriginal.

The report includes demographic information on the children placed in hotels, including age, sex, sibling groups, etc. The report also includes data on the number of nights the children stayed in hotels (the average is four), and the reasons for placement in a hotel. According to the report, five children were placed in a hotel because a foster home was not immediately available for a large sibling group.
