This report presents descriptive and statistical analyses regarding children who have been removed from the care of their original families and placed into the care of Manitoba Child and Family Services (CFS). The study was designed to “identify factors that contribute to the educational success of children in care in Manitoba” and to “make recommendations regarding what schools, school divisions, and the provincial Department of Education and Advanced Learning could do to contribute further to the educational success of children in care.” The report describes the characteristics of children in care in Manitoba, including their educational outcomes. The report also identifies factors that are associated with positive (and negative) educational outcomes for children in care in Manitoba, provides information on programs that improve educational outcomes for children in care, and presents recommendations on how educational outcomes can be improved.
