Join the association of South African Social Work Education Institutions (ASASWEI) in Durban, South Africa from 20 – 24 July 2008 for the 34th Biannual Congress of the International Association of Schools of Social Work. South Africa promises to be an exciting congress destination – a social laboratory with untold opportunities for education, reflection, research, networking and broadening one’s horizons.

The main theme of this conference is Transcending Global-Local Divides: Challenges for Social Work Education and Practice. Proposed sub-themes come from a wide range of domains and include:

  • North-South relationships

  • Contextual social work

  • Social exclusion, human rights, and social justice

  • Systems of patriarchy

  • International exchange in social work education and practice

  • Preparation of social workers for work in emergencies

  • And a variety of topics with specific practice or historical context.
