This online event will discuss the importance of kinship care in supporting vulnerable children around the world.
Speakers
- Blessing Mutama, Farm Orphans Support Trust (FOST), Zimbabwe
- Claudia Cabral, Associação Brasileira Terra dos Homens (ABTH)
- Kate Bundle, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, New Zealand - (via pre-recorded video, circulated in advance)
Through presentations and panel discussions, participants will hear why the extended family is considered so essential for supporting vulnerable children across regions. Participants will learn about the programmes, practices and tools that three CSOs use to empower vulnerable grandparent caregivers, so that they may protect and care for children. And participants will hear about the barriers these CSOs face in their work to promote kinship care and their successes in overcoming these.
Practitioners will learn about strong practice for supporting kinship care which they can adapt to their own contexts, and they will have the chance to connect and exchange directly with our members.
