Resilience and Recovery in Residential Child Care: Supported Adults and Supported Children

Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care

SIRCC Online: 9 - 10 November 2022

Our aim for SIRCC is to provide an inspiring space for you. It’s a place to connect, share and learn practice, challenge and inspire.

This year we are offering two days of FREE online content, including webinars, workshops, exhibitions, and opportunities to network, for both individuals and teams. This is an opportunity to spark, join and contribute to debate and develop ideas that you can implement into your practice, through learning, CPD, networking, and opportunities to join together in sharing insight and experiences which will help to support children and young people in residential child care. Inspired by how the workforce has engaged with SIRCC over the last few years, this year's SIRCC is being designed to provide an inspiring space for teams as well as individuals so that colleagues to take part online together to stimulate ongoing and start new conversations and support their professional learning.

About SIRCC

SIRCC is a key annual conference for all those working and living with, and within, the residential child care community in Scotland. It’s an annual and national opportunity that provides an important and reliable space for everyone with an interest in residential child care - residential care workers including front-line managers, service leads, and people working in public, voluntary, and private organisations, working to support children and young people – to join together in sharing insight, learning, and experiences.

Recovery and resilience for organisations and for individuals has been identified as our theme by this year’s planning group.

  • Following two unprecedented years of managing through a pandemic, how do we improve the lives of children, young people, and their families by supporting and encouraging each other through compassionate leadership, and enhancing the wellbeing of staff who in turn build supportive relationships with children?
  • How might we mitigate some of the impact the pressures and experiences of the last two years have caused, the increased stress, exhaustion, and burnout we’re seeing?
  • And, what does it take to have a resilient, happy workforce?

Keynote speaker: Bill Kahn

We're delighted to announce that the keynote speaker at SIRCC Online this year is Bill Kahn, Ph.D, an organisational psychologist and Department Chair and Professor of Management and Organizations at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. Bill teaches, publishes, and consults on the emotional complexities of organisational life and the implications for productive work, often focusing on caregiving organisations. He is particularly interested in how issues such as burnout and engagement are shaped at multiple levels of analysis -individual, interpersonal, within and between groups, and organisational.

Falling Apart and Hanging Together: Notes on Resilient Caregiving Organisations

By sharing a story of a staff member who is ‘under pressure’, Bill will ask ‘what does it truly means to create a caregiving environment?’, thinking about what this means in practice, and how staff and leaders can model what they want for themselves across to the children and young people in their care, by focusing on collective resilience, trauma and love.

Exhibitor Registration

Have you ever hosted an online exhibition space? Join us in our free online exhibition rooms, facilitated through Zoom. Your organisation will have the opportunity to host a room for one or both days of the conference. These rooms will be available during the opening sessions, lunch breaks and close of the event and within your space, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with the residential child care community, network, and share information about the services your organisation provides.

The exhibition spaces are free, and you will be supported by CELCIS colleagues and members of the conference planning team, with the opportunity to share media, PowerPoint presentations, and resources which fit with the theme of the conference. Attendees to the online programme will have the opportunity to choose which rooms they join, including social spaces for informal networking. Attendees can dip in and out of the various ‘exhibition spaces’ during the times listed on the programme.

For more information, or if you’ve any questions about the practicalities and set-up of the spaces, please get in touch with Michelle at celcis.learning@strath.ac.uk.
