Lumos USA Seeks Executive Director

The Executive Director is responsible for all operations of Lumos USA and liaises between the Board of Directors and Lumos globally.  By providing direction and strategic vision, the ED will lead Lumos USA’s contribution towards the mission to end the institutionalization of children worldwide by 2050. The Executive Director will have overall responsibility for leading the team in the administration, strategy, and finances of Lumos USA to ensure the successful achievement of the mission. Reporting to the Secretary to the Board, the ED will supervise a staff of three that includes a Communications Manager, Relationships Manager, and Researcher.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage operations of Lumos USA, with a focus on strategic relationships, impact and overall performance
  • Serve as the public face and spokesperson of Lumos USA, representing the organization externally to media, donors, government representatives and the international community
  • Build brand awareness of the organization across all constituencies
  • As appropriate, and working closely with Lumos colleagues in the UK and Brussels, engage government representatives to press for changes in legislation, regulations, policies and funding streams in the US
  • Develop, explore and implement new concepts and ideas to accomplish Lumos USA objectives
  • Develop and execute strategic partnerships and fundraising goals
  • Build an effective working relationship with the Board, maintaining regular communications and providing accurate and timely reporting to the Board regarding activities, outcome metrics, finances, and development
  • Liaise between Lumos USA and a range of external stakeholders
  • Ensure that sound financial controls are in place and funds are being spent appropriately, efficiently and in accordance with the Board’s policies and instructions
  • Oversee all personnel issues including hiring, managing and developing staff members, ensuring that they are motivated, productive and accountable
  • Maintain a consistent approach to advocacy, public relations and fundraising by liaising closely with colleagues in the UK and Brussels
