AP Investigation: Deported parents may lose kids to adoption

"An Associated Press investigation drawing on hundreds of court documents, immigration records and interviews in the U.S. and Central America has identified holes in the system that allow state court judges to grant custody of migrant children to American families — without notifying their parents," says this article from the Associate Press. The article tells the stories of some of the families who have been separated by the U.S. "zero tolerance" policy, including the story of one two year-old girl, Alexa, who was separated from her mother upon entry into the United States and placed into foster care. Alexa's mother was later deported and Alexa's foster family attempted to win full custody of her.
