Vignesh V - The New Indian Express

"Days after the managing trustee of an orphanage was arrested for sexually exploiting four minor inmates, activists have demanded Child Welfare Committee, District Child Protection Unit and police personnel to conduct frequent inspections at the homes in the district," says this article from the New Indian Express. In addition to the managing trustee, three other staff members of the orphanage (located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India) were also arrested for covering up the abuse. Child rights activists are calling for greater oversight and regulation of these institutions, including more surveillance of the homes and recruitment of more female Child Welfare Committee members, says the article.
