Child welfare agency under more fire

Norway’s child welfare agency (Barnevernet) has come under recent scrutiny for its practices regarding children of immigrant parents. According to the article, children of immigrant parents make up 40% of foster care placements. Potential bias in the system, cultural misunderstandings, or conflicts in beliefs on childrearing practices have been suggested as factors contributing to this high representation of immigrant families in the child welfare system. Furthermore, says the article, children of immigrant parents are not often placed in foster homes of the same language, culture, or religion - causing further rifts between parents and their separated children.
