Chinese city suspends baby hatch after it is overwhelmed by unwanted children

The city of Guangzhou in Southern China opened a “baby hatch” in January 2014 and, in three months, the center became so overwhelmed that the program was suspended, according to this article from the Guardian. The Guangzhou Child Welfare Center opened 28 January 2014 and by this article’s publication on 17 March 2014, the center had taken in 262 abandoned children, 67% of whom were under a year old.
