The Government of Kenya, through partners and other stakeholders, is scaling up the National Care Reform Strategy that seeks to transition about 85,000 children in more than 900 institutions to family and community-based care. According to the State Department for Social Protection, Kenya’s Care Reform Strategy is part of a growing worldwide movement backed by more than 80 years of research. During the inauguration of the scaling up of the National Care Reform Strategy in all regions of Kenya in Embu County, it was revealed that studies show that children living in institutions have biological and extended families that can care for them.
