Mexico City Bans Cages, Restraints at Facilities for People With Disabilities

This article, and accompanying video, highlight the results of a recent Disability Rights International and ABC News joint investigation on the “deplorable” living conditions for children and youth, many of whom have disabilities, living in state-run residential facilities in Mexico City, Mexico. According to the article, in light of the recent investigation the government of Mexico City has agreed to ban the use of restraints and cages on children living in its state-funded institutions and to move towards placing these children into foster homes. Disability Rights International has released a report, "No Justice: Torture, Trafficking and Segregation in Mexico," detailing the findings of a year-long investigation into the situation of children, some with disabilities, living in government institutions in Mexico.
