A correspondent from the Daily Star in Bangladesh investigated an “orphanage” at Angaria village in Dumki upazila that was receiving government funds. According to the article, the Hashemia Islami Shishu Sadan orphanage was receiving funds to provide food and clothes to orphans. However, upon investigation of the orphanage site, the correspondent found nothing but an incomplete two-story structure with no furniture, no children, and no staff. According to the local social welfare officer, "the government allocation for the orphanage has already stopped as we found irregularities during visit to the orphanage on January 29. We are investigating the matter and action will be taken."
