This article, from EuroChild, notes how in August 2025, North Macedonia took a significant stride toward strengthening child welfare by officially adopting its National Action Plan on the Rights of the Child for 2025–2029. This comprehensive, cross-sector framework aims to improve children’s living standards, reduce poverty and social exclusion, expand equitable access to essential services, and boost financial support for children—most notably through a planned 15 percent increase in child allowances. A cornerstone of the Plan is the reinstatement of a permanent National Committee on the Rights of the Child to oversee implementation and compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child—aligning with both a prior UN recommendation and the EU’s Rule of Law Roadmap. Developed collaboratively by multiple ministries, civil society, and—including—children themselves, the initiative lays a strong foundation for sustainable, inclusive child rights governance in North Macedonia.
