'Progress will be lost': Funding cuts to hit Aboriginal child protection

Professor Megan Davis, author of the recent Family is Culture review, has criticized the government of the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) for its decision to reduce funding to the peak body for Aboriginal children in out-of-home care, AbSec, says this article from the Sydney Morning Herald.

"AbSec CEO Tim Ireland said the projects for which funding was not being renewed were providing support and cultural guidance to organisations delivering intensive family services across the state, aimed at keeping kids at home with family and preventing child removals." According to the article, Davis's review "made 125 recommendations for reform, including the appointment of an independent Aboriginal commissioner and advisory body to provide oversight and ensure accountability."
