South Korea's Single Moms Struggle To Remove A Social Stigma

Elise Hu - NPR

This article sheds light on a growing movement in South Korea to accept and embrace single mothers. According to the article, most of the who have been children adopted out of South Korea were born to single mothers who face so much social stigma that they have little option but to give up their children for adoption. Some single mothers are coerced into giving up their children or, in some cases, even have their children placed for adoption by another family member.

To address these issues, Monday May 11, 2015 was marked Single Mother's Day, in an effort to raise awareness of South Korea’s unwed mothers.
