In this speech delivered at the 9th European Forum on the Rights of the Child in Brussels, Věra Jourová, EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality highlights the current dangers faced by many of Europe’s children today, including poverty and institutionalization. The Commissioner urges participants in the Forum to use the event as “a springboard for future action” to ensure the rights of children are respected and their best interests considered in all EU child protection policy. The Commissioner references the Forum reflection paper in which the Commission proposes 10 principles for child protection systems.
