The Children Act and the principle of less eligibility

Harriet Ward - The Guardian

In this opinion piece for the Guardian, Harriet Ward - Emeritus professor of child and family research of Loughborough University - argues that UK policy since the passage of the Children Act of 1989 has moved away from promoting children’s satisfactory development and welfare. Ward notes, among other things, that "one of the most pernicious moves has been the provision under the Immigration Act 2016 to withdraw statutory support for care leavers from looked-after children whose immigration status has not been regularised by the time they are 18."
