Indigenous babies being removed from parents at rising rates, study finds

Calla Wahlquist - The Guardian

"Indigenous newborns and babies less than one year old [in Western Australia] are being removed from their parents and placed into out-of-home care at increased rates," according to this article from the Guardian. A new study has revealed that Indigenous infants in Western Australia have been removed from their families and placed into out-of-home care at rates ten times that of non-Indigenous infants. The study urges that this issue should be “seen as a priority requiring urgent action to prevent further intergenerational trauma."
