This article from the Tyee highlights a new report with recommendations for supporting foster youth in British Columbia, Canada in transitioning to independent living, which was co-researched by 8 youth from care and a a McGill University social work PhD student, Melanie Doucet. "The report, released by the Representative for Children and Youth’s website on Tuesday, focuses on the importance of relationships in the lives of young people in and from care. From their connections with culture and community, to their relationships from family, friends, mentors and social workers." The report features recommendations for the Ministry of Children and Family Development, as well as for British Columbia Housing, landlords, municipal and provincial governments, educators and health professionals.
