Republic of Kenya and UNICEF

This document was developed with the aim of assisting Charitable Children’s Institutions (CCIs) in Kenya to boost their capacity for determining which children need to be admitted into CCIs, how to provide adequate care and protection to the children and how to plan the eventual exit of the children back to their families and communities.

The document also provides guidance on establishing and managing a CCI, staff practice and procedures, standards for the admission and care of children in CCIs, mainstreaming and crosscutting issues, and networking with communities, government, and other agencies. The document concludes by listing the responsibilities of the Department of Children’s Services and other government bodies in Kenya in regards to CCIs.
