Description
Beginning in the summer of 2019, Bethany's new partnership with Wells of Hope provides family-based care services to children whose parents are currently incarcerated in Kampala’s Maximum Security Prison. This pilot intervention will partner with churches in the Ugandan community to recruit families to provide temporary or longer-term care for children. Bethany Uganda's programs include:
- Family Preservation and Empowerment: Their first priority for children of incarcerated parents is to locate extended family. If reunification is appropriate, they support these families to reintegrate the child back into their family of origin.
- Foster Care: When family can’t be located, or it is not safe for a child to return, Bethany partners with local churches and communities to place children into loving homes where they can thrive. When possible, they work to maintain the child’s connection to their incarcerated parent while in foster care.
