WHAT:  A training guide for health and social workers on the delivery of medical and psychosocial services to survivors of sexual abuse.  It includes modules on:

  1. Social context of children in especially difficult circumstances;
  2. Child health and growth;
  3. Health effects of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation;
  4. Substance abuse and HIV/AIDS;
  5. Assessment and treatment;
  6. Remedial actions;
  7. Care for the care providers.

WHO:  Health and social service personnel, counselors, caregivers, as well as managers, social and community workers and trainers, working directly with sexually abused and sexually exploited children and youth.

WHERE:  While this training manual was produce specifically for practitioners in Asia and the Pacific, its in-depth exploration of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation have global relevance.   

WHY:  It provides comprehensive information on the medical and psychosocial needs of sexually abused and sexually exploited children and youth.  It is useful in developing practitioners’ skills for designing, managing and evaluating preventive and remedial services. Individual modules can be used to respond to a particular case, or together as a comprehensive training program.

N.B. The Manual refers to a CD for electronic versions of the PowerPoint slides.  This is not included in this toolkit.
