Early Childhood Development Kit: Guidelines for Caregivers

WHAT:  Summary guidance on the use of therapeutic language and the role of play and art in helping children’s development, and in responding to children exposed to trauma.  Includes a range of age-appropriate ideas for toys and activities in low resource settings. 

WHO: Caregivers in family and institutional settings.  Social and community workers and trainers involved in psychosocial work.

WHERE: Global relevance. Additional activity and toy ideas can be inserted according to what is common locally, what resources are available, and/or what may be required for specific behavioral issues. 

WHY:  Gives specific instructions for toys and activities for different ages of children that require minimal resources.  Emphasizes the importance of play, stimulation, and interaction in the daily routine of a child.
