In no country in the world do men take on an equal share of child care & unpaid work, yet men’s uptake of this work is at the intersection of achieving gender equality, advancing economic justice, & supporting child development.
This two-part launch event reveals research, insights, and a new, 7-point plan for how to achieve equality in care work, launched in this year’s State of the World’s Fathers 2021 report; and it will provide an opportunity for private sector, government, & civil society leaders to discuss & debate practical, regional solutions to promote men’s caregiving and advance gender equality. It is part of the MenEngage Ubuntu Symposium. This edition of State of the World’s Fathers reveals global data on men’s involvement in care work, hones in on COVID-19’s impact on unpaid care work, and investigates how national COVID-19 policies are advancing or impeding progress.
State of the World’s Fathers, produced by Promundo, is a globally recognized, biennial report and advocacy platform of MenCare: A Global Fatherhood Campaign. It aims to change power structures, policies, & social norms around care work & to advance gender equality. The report has sparked policy debate & change from the Netherlands to Brazil, has been launched in more than 10 countries, & has been featured in prominent news outlets – from The New York Times to The Guardian, reaching a potential 2 billion+ readers since 2015.
