Webinar: Leaving Care: An integrated approach to capacity building of professionals and young people

Better Care Network and SOS Children's Villages International

The two-year project ‘Leaving Care – An Integrated Approach to Capacity Building of Professionals and Young People’, has aimed to build the capacity of professionals working with children and young people who are leaving care as well as to strengthen support networks for young care leavers. The project has been coordinated by SOS Children’s Villages International and implemented in cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages’ national associations in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Italy and Romania as well as the child-focused organizations FICE Austria and FONPC.

This project builds on the findings and training material developed together with CELCIS during the Prepare for Leaving Care project (2017-2018). The training was initially implemented in Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy and Croatia and has, to date, reached over 1000 care professionals across the ten countries. Furthermore, the training won the European Social Services Award in the category innovation for the participation of young people in the development as well as in the co-delivery of the training.

This webinar, hosted by Better Care Network and SOS Children's Villages International, will feature the voices of careleavers and young people who served as co-trainers in the project, as well as master trainers from Hungary and Bulgaria. Panelists will discuss the training, building a supportive network for care leavers (including the Austrian Care Leavers Association), and the support needed to ensure that the rights of young people in alternative care are respected and that they are prepared for an independent life.

The projects have been co-financed by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC) Programme of the European Union.
