Family Based Alternative Care
The Family-Based Alternative Care (FBAC) Project of Human Welfare Voluntary Organization (HWVO) is a child protection initiative implemented with UNICEF support in Jammu & Kashmir. The project focuses on strengthening community-based care mechanisms for vulnerable children to prevent unnecessary family separation and ensure children grow up in safe and nurturing family environments.
Through the FBAC project, HWVO has established and supported Child Protection Groups (CPGs) across districts, provided case management support for children at risk, facilitated family reintegration and sponsorship support, and promoted linkages with social protection schemes. The project also engages adolescents, caregivers, and community members in awareness and capacity-building sessions, while working closely with District Child Protection Units (DCPUs), Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), and other stakeholders.
Overall, the FBAC project represents HWVO’s commitment to building sustainable, community-led child protection systems aligned with Mission Vatsalya and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, ensuring children’s right to family care and protection in Jammu & Kashmir.
