Bethany Christian Services: Ethiopia

Bethany Global's office in the city of Addis Ababa partners with local organizations and churches in a variety of ways to serve orphans, vulnerable children, and families in need. Their family preservation and family strengthening programs help prevent parents from abandoning or relinquishing their children to institutional care. Their in-country foster care program is designed to help remove children from orphanages and place them with loving foster families, who may eventually adopt them.

This report provides initial documentation of a pilot program launched by Bethany Christian Services in 2009 in Ethiopia. The pilot aims at moving children from institutional care to family-based care by developing alternative family care for non-relative children using a foster-to-adopt approach, working through a partnership between faith communities in Ethiopia and American faith congregations in the US.
