Global report 2018: Progress towards ending corporal punishment of children

Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children

Since the UN Secretary General's Study on Violence against Children recommended universal prohibition of corporal punishment as a matter of urgency in 2006, these annual global reports have tracked progress towards this vital goal for children. Progress and commitment has accelerated in recent years, particularly since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Agenda, including Target 16.2 to end all forms of violence against children. This latest report takes stock of the shifting global context and increasing movement to end corporal punishment. It highlights the major achievements of 2018, as well as the areas in need of most urgent attention, and looks forward to 2019 – already shaping up to be another big year in the journey to end corporal punishment and all violence against children.
