As much of the violence endured by children occurs in the home, researching and combating child maltreatment is a tricky and complex endeavour. Evidence-based responses are context specific, sustainable and can generate new evidence to enhance further policy developments.
This guide provides practical information and tools on how to:
- measure the extent of child maltreatment and its consequences
- design, implement and evaluate preventative measures
- detect the problem and respond accordingly
- minimise long-term negative impacts on children
- provide ongoing care to victims and families
- prevent the reoccurrence of violence.
The guide is intended for policy-makers and programme planners working at national, provincial and municipal levels in the sectors of health, social services and the law.
