Abstract
Between 2014 and 2017, around 623,000 people arrived by sea in Italy. This has led to a huge problem for guarantee quality instruction for migrants, especially young people; research carried out by UNICEF has shown that young migrants represent the desire to be able to resume regular education as soon as possible. The answer to these new education challenges finds concrete support in new technologies. In fact, they allow the development of new dematerialized learning contexts, in which the pedagogical approaches can be dynamically adapted to the specific needs of the individual migrants, whether he is host to reception facilities, included in educational institutions, or in movement. In addition, there is the opportunity for asynchronous use of the contents and the possibility of a wide use of multilingual tools. But what is more important, the educational experiences supported by the new technologies would allow an immediate resumption of the scholastic pathway of the young migrants, since their inclusion in the first reception centers. In this paper, we present the results of the Studiare Migrando project (www.studiaremigrando.it), in which an online learning platform to improve the language skills of young migrants and accessible via mobile devices has been implemented. The use of an app has allowed us to highlight how digital technologies, and in particular mobile devices, can meet the learning needs of learners on the move, such as the forced migrants.
