The Draft UN Guidelines for the Appropriate Use and Conditions of Alternative for Children elaborates on the principles already in the Convention of the Rights of the Child, promoting child participation as one of its underpinning principles as outlined in Article 6. That is all decisions in the context of Alternative Care ‘should respect fully the child’s right to be consulted and to have his/her views duly taken into account in accordance with his/her evolving capacities…’. This review cites some of the relevant articles in the Draft UN Guidelines relating to the child’s right to participate and is illustrated by a few global practices.
