At a time when the Global Charter on Children’s Care Reform is calling for stronger commitment and action to ensure children grow up in safe and loving families, FAFICA collaborated with the Global Campaign on Children’s Care Reform Working Group to convene the webinar “Over 30 Million Reasons to Act: Advancing Family Care for Children in Africa.”
Convened by the Family First Alliance for Children Without Parental Care in Africa (FAFICA) and Transform Alliance Africa, in partnership with and with support from the Eastern Africa Child Rights Network, the session brought together policymakers, civil society actors, practitioners, people with lived experience, faith-based leaders, and other partners from across the continent to explore how Africa can strengthen family-based care for children without parental care.
The webinar was also delivered in partnership with the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC), helping to amplify General Comment No. 10 on Children Without Parental Care and strengthen awareness, understanding, and action across the continent.
Taking place at a critical moment, when more than 30 million children across Africa are estimated to be living without parental care, the discussion focused on moving from commitment to action. It deepened understanding of the Global Charter on Children’s Care Reform and General Comment No. 10, and highlighted practical steps to strengthen family-based care systems. The session also created space for shared learning, lived experience, and cross-country collaboration across sectors.
